How to Install Garden Lighting

An easy step by step guide to installing garden lighting in your own garden, yard, decking area or landscaped grounds.

  • Your first step should be to check local codes regarding outdoor lighting. Be sure to follow these code requirements carefully. Most areas there are no restrictions on lighting your own garden.

  • Plan which areas you would like to illuminate. Most common areas are pathways, porches, patios and decking. Along with garden features, feature plants and shrubs.

  • Locate an easily accessible power source. For Chrissline products you require a normal plug socket, we reccommend an RCD protected socket. If you don't already have a socket you can purchase a plug in unit to provide protection. If the socket is located outside you should make sure it is a weatherproof waterproof socket.

  • For any outside wiring installation, always use weatherproof equipment, such as boxes, receptacles, etc.

  • Remember to shut off the electrical current at the main switch before connecting your lighting.

Where to Start?

First decide which light fittings you want where, we recommend placing the fittings in the location so you can visualise the lighting effect before you connect up the wires. Garden lighting from Chrissline is easily moved, expanded and adapted to suit your rerquirements. So don't worry if you don't quite get the lighting effect correct the first time, you can easily relocate or add lights as needed.

Once you have placed the garden light fittings where you would like them you need to start planning how you are going to connect them to the power supply. With Chrissline products this is very easy each light fitting is already fitted with a 1.5m cable with a quick connect adaptor. The adaptor will then connect to a number of different things, a splitter which splits the power supply into 2 so you can connect 2 light fittings or a 5 way splitter where you can connect 5 light fittings. In addition to this you can add extension cables either 5m or 15m so you can easily ditribute the lights around your garden.

Chrissline cables are design so they can be easily hidden, we recommend covering with soil, bark or pebbles / stones. once all the light fittings are connected you can then connect the cable to the power supply using our Starter Cable which is fitted with a normal fused 3 pin plug.

Below is an example of how to connect your garden lights:
